I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder three years ago. Since that time, I have struggled with my health on many levels, from physical to emotional. The decision to try health coaching came about organically through an introduction to April Reynolds, health coach and owner of Sapient Wellness, at a local exposition. April and I met together for three months and by the end of that time I was able to identify and pursue my health goals confidently and with a clear sense of self-awareness. April’s approach to coaching encompasses the whole life and because of that far exceeded my expectations of counting calories and working out more. Through April’s individualized coaching techniques, I was able connect my challenges in making good health choices to my overall sense of emotional well-being. With her guidance and support, I was able to increase my physical activity and to incorporate a wider variety of nutrient-dense foods and beneficial probiotics into my regular diet. April helped me recognize the obstacles that historically prevented me from making healthy choices and to break down those barriers. She researched my autoimmune disorder and recommended informative reading materials, appropriate activities and nutritional interventions based on my individual preferences and needs. She was immensely compassionate and validating, and always listened with a nonjudgmental ear. Plus, her giveaways were amazing! After three months of coaching with April, I was headed down a happier and more fulfilling path, I had lost weight and I was experiencing the healthiest life I had in years. I would recommend a health coach if you’re looking to make any change regarding your body and the way you feel. I wanted to get healthy and stop eating processed foods. April is a great listener. She has a wealth of knowledge about health, nutrition, and the chemicals/toxins that are in our foods. My bi-monthly meetings with April helped me stay on track and find healthy alternatives. (She has great smoothie recipes!) If I slipped up, I didn’t feel like April looked down on me and would kindly remind me time and again "I’m only human." I hired April to coach me during a 6 week Paleo/Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) elimination diet, which addresses inflammation. While I am already a very healthy eater, am basically healthy, well researched and knew what I wanted to do, I wanted the emotional support and knowledge base of someone with April’s training to walk alongside me as I engaged in this new food exploration. April has been a good listener and summarizer of the progress I was making, sending written emails after each session along with additional research I could learn from and recipes I could use. Through our meetings, phone calls and texting she encouraged me and added the motivation I needed to plod through a very limited diet. I must say I kept to the protocol and am still re-introducing foods slowly and methodically, while learning a lot about myself. April's empathy, knowledge and enthusiasm are impressive.
